What if you’ve been doing everything “right” in your business… and it still doesn’t feel like enough?
In this episode of Boost Your Business by Business Heroes®, I sat down with therapist, executive coach, and retreat leader Anna Ugander to discuss what happens when the hustle stops working, burnout starts creeping in, and success doesn’t feel how you thought it would.
This conversation invites you to pause, get curious, and start listening to yourself again.

Episode Highlights from the Conversation with Anna Ugander
The achievement trap: When success doesn’t feel like success
Anna and I explored how easy it is to get stuck chasing goals that look good on paper but don’t feel fulfilling. We talked about how society rewards busyness and external success, and how shame often drives us to overachieve to feel “enough.” The result? Exhaustion, self-doubt, and a sense of disconnect, even when everything looks fine from the outside.
Self-leadership starts with listening
One of the most practical tools Anna shared is the STOPLIGHT method. A way to reconnect with your inner guidance system before reacting or pushing forward.
🔴 Mind (Red): Observe and become aware
🟡 Gut-feeling (Yellow): Feel the emotion and identify the need beneath it
🟢 Legs (Green): Feel the emotion and identify the need beneath it
This tool helps you move from autopilot to intention and is something Anna uses with clients and herself daily.
Knowing what you need (but still hustling anyway)
We talked about how many entrepreneurs already know what they need, but override that inner voice to follow what’s trending, what the algorithm favors, or what others say they “should” do. We unpacked how conscious leadership starts by trusting that your internal roadmap is just as valid, if not more, than external advice.
Burnout isn’t always about overwork
Anna explained that burnout doesn’t just come from doing too much. It often comes from doing things that aren’t aligned with who you are. We shared stories about the physical and emotional signs of stress and how your body will always speak up when something isn’t working. Learning to listen before it escalates is a skill every business owner needs.
Masculine & feminine energy in leadership
This part of the conversation explored the blend of energy every leader needs, regardless of gender. Anna described how conscious leadership means balancing structure with softness, action with presence. We discussed how many women have had to “mimic” traditional masculine leadership, and how freeing it is to lead from a more authentic, integrated place.
Why celebration is essential (and often overlooked)
We dove into how often entrepreneurs forget to celebrate their wins. Big or small, these moments deserve attention, but we’re so used to moving the goalpost that we don’t stop to acknowledge progress. Anna and I talked about how celebration isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s essential for motivation, embodiment, and sustainable success.
Creating space to feel & reset
Anna shared how transformation often requires time and space, not just strategies. We talked about the importance of stepping away from everyday distractions to process, feel, and reflect. That’s part of why she created her upcoming retreat in Bali. A week-long experience designed for service-based entrepreneurs and leaders who need to come home to themselves.

Conscious leadership in real life
Throughout the episode, we connected self-leadership to real-life business situations, including client conversations, team conflicts, pricing, productivity, and more. Anna reminded us that emotional awareness isn’t separate from business success—it’s its foundation.
